Career/Technology
The goal of Career and Technology Education is to provide students with a selection of career based coursework that exposes them to a variety of careers. The teachers are devoted to guiding students along the career path of their choice.
Students choose a career path/major and then select courses that correspond to their choice. They are given opportunities to join student organizations and participate in work-based learning related to their career choice. In addition, the Career and Technology Department has an articulation agreement with Horry Georgetown Technical College which gives students the opportunity to be exempt from some courses at HGTC by taking them at MBHS.
Currently, MBHS offers courses within the following major areas:
-
Health Science
-
Sports Medicine
-
Hospitality and Tourism
-
Family and Consumer Science
-
General Management
The CTE department also sponsors three different student organizations: Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), DECA and National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) to help students get involved in their various areas of interest. If you are interested in joining any of these organizations, please ask your CTE teacher!
English Language Arts
The mission of the Myrtle Beach High School English department is to provide students with the best experience possible to help them think critically about the modern world and be able to communicate effectively in that world. The English Language Arts staff at Myrtle Beach High School is dedicated to integrating a wide variety of strategies into daily lessons and unit plans with the goal of success for every student. All our ELA teachers are available for additional assistance during scheduled tutoring hours or by appointment.
Fine Arts
The goal of the Visual and Performing Arts (Fine Arts) Department is to provide students with the opportunity to explore and develop individual artistic styles and self expression through their chosen artistic field of study. Students will be exposed to social, historical and cultural influences through the arts to develop a knowledge base by which to evaluate performances and multiple types of art forms. Each class offered strives to help students become more accomplished visual and performing artists who make valid connections with their academics while becoming creative, cooperative, disciplined, and ethical members of society.
Mathematics
By ensuring a rigorous curriculum, analyzing data within content/course specific areas, and implementing interventions for struggling students, the Myrtle Beach High School Math department will work diligently to increase the overall level of student achievement during this school year. As a team, we understand that in order to be successful as a post-secondary student, you must have a good mathematical background. Experiencing this success will enable our students to go on to other academic mathematics courses needed for higher education and promising careers.
NJROTC
The NJROTC program was established by Public Law in 1964 and may be found in Title 10, U.S. Code, Chapter 102. The program is conducted at accredited secondary schools throughout the nation by instructors who are retired Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard officers and enlisted personnel. The NJROTC curriculum emphasizes citizenship and leadership development, as well as our maritime heritage, the significance of sea power, and naval topics such as the fundamentals of naval operations, seamanship, navigation and meteorology. Classroom instruction is augmented throughout the year by community service activities, drill competition, field meets, flights, visits to naval activities, marksmanship training, and other military training. Uniforms, textbooks, training aids, travel allowance, and a substantial portion of instructors' salaries are provided by the Navy.

Physical Education
The physical education department offers classes in physical education, weight training, and health. Along with teaching, each member of our department coaches a varsity sport after school. We strive to teach students the importance of lifelong physical activity through individual and team activities. Physical education is essential for the physical, social, and mental/emotional well-being. We all take pride in teaching students how important hardwork, discipline, responsibility, and dedication is to be successful in life.
Science
The mission of the MBHS Science Department is to develop students who are scientifically literate and globally aware. Scientific reasoning, problem solving, laboratory activities and experimentation are essential components of every course. In order to graduate from Horry County Schools, a student must take a minimum of three science classes (Physical Science, Biology, and Chemistry), although we strongly recommend that every student take a science course each year. College-bound students must take a fourth course which has a prerequisite of Biology and/or Chemistry. The nine highly qualified members of the Science Department are working together this year to develop common assessments for all subjects and to increase the use of guided inquiry in our classrooms. Each science teacher is available for tutoring if a student needs extra help.
