| Low Country Region Orchestra |
| Congratulations to the following Myrtle Beach High orchestra members who were selected by audition for the 2009 Low Country Region Orchestra. Over 300 students auditioned on Saturday, October 10, at the James Island Charter School to compete for a seat in the junior and senior orchestras. Those selected: Logan Donevant, Mary Elizabeth Holton, Stephen Jones, Dillon King, Thi Lam, Mason O'Keefe, Courtney Pendleton, Ivana Perez (alternate), Nathan Salvo, and Rebecca Usry. Congratulations to these talented Seahawks! |

| Teacher of the Year |
Myrtle Beach High School is proud to announce that Elaine DeCastro-Greenlief is our teacher of the year. Mrs. DeCastro has taught for 33 years; nearly 30 in upstate NY. She is also an adjunct professor at CCU. She has a B.S. and M.Ed. in Special Education and is certified in Braille and visual impairment. She has lived here since 2006, loves being at MBHS, and has found the Seahawk family to be very welcoming and embracing. Congratulations, Mrs. D.! |

Advance Placement Scholar Awards |

MBHS is proud to congratulate 27 of our students (and their families) for being recognized as Advanced Placement Scholar Award recipients. This award program recognizes high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams. AP Scholar – granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams: Jacob Beaver, Trey Bryan, Olivia Elswick, Korreda Gause, Lucas Gianini, Christina Hawkins, Mary Holton, Alex Holton, Jeremy Ludemann, Sanders Martini, Nicholas Rierson, Jacob Rockow, Margaret Singleton, and Eric Wunder . AP Scholar with Honor – granted to students who receive an average score of at least a 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more on these exams: Catherine Goyak, Whitney Isley, Alyssa Liebman, Bao Nguyen, Courtney Pendleton, and Timothy Thompkins. AP Scholar with Distinction – granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and a score of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams: Shelby Arneberg, Robert Boykin, Ben Brittain, Julianna Carter, John Holton, Chloe Rockow, and Taylor Warner. AP National Scholar – granted to students who receive an average score of at least 4.0 on all AP exams taken and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams: Ben Brittain.
