Career Guidance at Myrtle Beach High School provides opportunity for all students to explore and discover their interests and skills in preparing for careers. At MBHS, we use the career exploration program SCOIS (South Carolina Occupational Information System), the Kuder Career Planning System to create a career portfolio for our students, and the South Carolina Career Information System, SCCIS. The Microburst Virtual Job Shadowing program also allows students to investigate various careers online. Students have an opportunity to participate in many career inventory assessments, research colleges, virtual job shadowing, etc. Career Development takes place throughout the year. Students participate in career activities, view career videos, hear a variety of speakers and participate in a career fair.
Please contact Nichole Jackson, GCDF for log-in information for the above programs.
Every student in grades 9, 10 and 11 will have an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP). Students will be given an opportunity to choose one of the 16 career clusters offered through Horry County Schools, as well as a major. There will be scheduled IGP parent/guardian conferences throughout the year for freshmen (mid-November-February), juniors (October- November) and sophomores (November - January). During the conference, students will update and/or make any changes to their IGP.
If you have any career guidance questions, please contact your student’s School Counselor or the Career Development Facilitator at MBHS, 843-445-2032.
